MIRPUR: VIRTUAL REALITY Experience

MIRPUR VR is a co-created virtual reality experience which will use verbatim stories, archive research and modern mapping technology to bring to life the old Mirpur region. Hundreds of villages were submerged under the waters of Mangla Dam since its construction in the 1960’s. It is estimated that over seventy percent of British Pakistanis have heritage that actually links to this area of Kashmir and the surrounding geography.

Supported by Arts Council England and in collaboration with Mirpur Heritage, El-Zafar leads a creative team to capture the stories of old Mirpur with the ambition to uncover lost histories, document journeys of the diaspora and celebrate the community’s roots like never before.

Production is currently live. We aim to have a community tour ready for Spring 2023.
